Cells

This chapter will familiarize you with parts of cells through the use of multi-media presentations and labs.

First, watch this sixty second teacher made wmv moss cell movie and find out about moss, cell walls, and chloroplasts.

Second, download and perform the Moss lab and get up close and personal with these cells. Some answers for this lab will be found on the wmv moss cell movie.

Third, download and complete this photosynthesis worksheet while watching this photosynthesis discovery streaming movie.

Fourth, download and perform the Onion Lab. Be careful not to cry out loud.

Fifth, get a sample of pond or vernal pool water. Centrifuge a sample down (only after you have been shown by the teacher how to use the centrifuge). At the bottom of the tube, get a small sample of that water and place a drop on the slide. Place a cover slip on the slide. devise a method to observe the whole slide looking for microorganisms. When you find an organism, download this Microscope Observation Lab Sheet and complete it. Clean-up your area and dump out the sample and wash out all containers putting them on the drying rack in the lab. If time permits, take photographs of your organism (teacher will explain).
