Short Story

Other?

The world is getting smaller and smaller. The population of the world continues to increase. Cities continue to sprawl outward. Land is being consumed for human habitation. Natural areas are seeing more and more pressure to be “Citified”. Entire populations of people have never experienced the natural world. Having a learning community based in the natural world is a goal of Wildlands Science Research School. An expectation of our members is to be outdoors and engaged with the natural world.

Observation point is an activity, teaching students to be aware and appreciate the natural world. An observation point is a specific geographic location within Beaver Creek Reserve. Once a week students go to their observation point for an assignment. Assignments are then compiled into a student portfolio. The portfolio many take many forms; however, the most common are Powerpoints or web pages. The list in the left column are the different topic assignments.
