Shortly our class will be going to the Minnesota Zoo. Prior to visiting this place of wonderment and amazement, there are activites that will prepare you for your adventure. The following are the list of things that must be accomplished before going to the zoo.

  1. Choose a speicfic biome. There are many resources available for choosing the biome you desire. Missouri botanical Gardens gives a lists of the basic land and water biomes. The The Blue Planet does a great job of listing most of the land biomes on a global map. Another site of land biomes, but not all are listed, is at Radford University. You can certainly look at other resources such as books, magazines or other web sites.
  2. Create a travel brochure based on a biome. Use the travel brochure rubric to know what is required on the travel brochure.
  3. Choose an animal that is located at the MN Zoo. You may choose any animal from the Minnesota Zoo Animal list document.Complete the Minnesota Zoo Animal Worksheet. You must show teacher the worksheet before continuing on!
  4. Write a report about that animal. Use the Minnesota Zoo Animal Worksheet to write this report. It is possible to follow the sheet from top to bottom to help you write your report. Each student will orally read their report, over the bus PA system, to the class as we travel to our destination.Save your report on the your computer hard drive so that it can be printed out before we go.
  5. Design a project. This project is something that must take place while at the Zoo. Topics may include: GPS mapping, statistics, ecology, animal behavior, geography, photography, conservation or analyze an animal exhibit. Your project must have an eductional objective or purpose and be approved by the teacher. See list below for sources or you can come up with you own.
  6. Report back to the class in a semminar with what results you found.Choose a seminar day, from those that the teacher provides, and write it on the calendar.
