My Town
- While traveling to destinations, the class has various activities while on the bus. The following activities are designed to meet state standards or just to have fun.
Before leaving on the trip, find a city along your route. Complete the My Town prewriting sheet and then write a radio advertisement promoting your town and its activites. You will then read your advertisement on the bus while traveling to the destination. The final written copy of the promotional advertisement must contain a minimum of five adjectives describing things about your town. This adjectives list is a great help.

Titanic Exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota
- Meet the crew of the Titanic. Read their biographies. Choose your favorite crew member. Answer these following questions: What is his or her name? What function did he/she perform? What makes this crew member remarkable? Who does this crew member remind you of and why? What does the "actor" do besides being a crew member?
Then the day of the visit, meet cast of actors that play the crew as you enter the exhibit.
- Choose a biography of a passenger or crew member from the Encyclopedia Titanica list of passengers. See if there is a person with your last name. Many of the biographies are short.Choose a biography that has some substance to it. Summarize the biography of that person and be prepared to orally present it.
- From the Titanic fact page, what one fact will you likely remember? Why?
- There were four groups of people on the Titanic: crew, 1st classs passengers, 2nd class passengers, and 3rd class passengers. On the Titanic, passengers
could book passage in the first class, second class, or third
class cabins. If ticket prices were adjusted to today's cost, then here are the prices of the different tickets:
First Class Deluxe Parlor Suite = $90,000
Second Class
Ticket = $1200
Third Class Berth = $770.
Describe how each group of people probably dressed differently? What kind of foods were each group of people likely to eat? What would the different ticket rooms look like? Where would the different class ticket rooms likely to be? What group of people more than likely had the highest and lowest survival rate?
- Using the saved and lost numbers from the passenger page, make 5 pie charts showing the percentage of people that survived the wreck of the Titanic. Below are the 5 charts that you need to make.
