Speaking (15% of your overall grade)
Seminars: All students will participate in quarterly seminars. Seminars are a chance for all of us to share our experience or interests with the group.
- Work being done at Wildlands School
- Current local, national, global events
- Research Topics
- Areas of interest such as:
- the history of some subject or idea
- a discovery
- a description of a person, place or thing
- A topic related to a general concept in science
Examples:
- gravity
- electricity
- populations
- cycles of nature
- weather
- ...there are too many to list...
Each student should follow the seminar format below when preparing and presenting the seminar. The length of the presentation should be a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.

The following outline details the kinds of information you should be seeking as you prepare the seminar presentation. Keep in mind that each seminar will be unique and NOT all of the outline will be related to what you pick. You are responsible for using the parts of the format that apply to your subject. Seminar Format
- Title – Topic or Issue
- History
- Major concepts, ideas, general information, definitions
- New vocabulary and language associated with the subject
- Questions, problems, and issue definition
- The Main Idea
- State the main idea, thesis, or topic
- Develop supporting facts and information
- Use examples
- Explain and define any new concepts related to the topic.
- Connections
- What is this about?
- What or who is effected?
- What kinds of effects?
- List them
- Find and describe and Pro or Con sides of the issue
- Opinions verses facts associated with the topic
- Economic issues related to it
- Political or social issues related to it
- Conclusions
- What do you think?
- Why?
- Restate major ideas, definitions, information.
- Questions and discussion
